Windermere fees and charges

Charges apply to permanent swinging moorings, holiday moorings and short term jetty berthing on Windermere. Separate fees apply for the cost of berths and the use of on site facilities at Ferry Nab Marina.

There is also a charge for Windermere boat registration which is a requirement for all powered boats on the lake.

All prices listed below include VAT at the appropriate rate from 1 April 2022.  

Permanent swinging moorings

We have 675 swing mooring sites on the lake, these are let on an annual basis.

Third party insurance compulsory. 

Annual charges (for a 12 month period commencing 1 April)

  • open deck yachts: £846
  • moorings with no boat attached for the whole licence period: £651
  • all other craft up to maximum length of 14m: £152.40 per metre  (Vessels over 11m limited sites where available)
  • commercial moorings: £1,669.50
  • service moorings: £1,454.40
  • local resident discount (SLDC residents): subject to being registered for full council tax and not in arrears or receiving second home relief, (pro rata as the year progresses): £217.20

Mooring licensees are entitled to limited free use of slipway, tractor, mast hoist and unlimited showers.

Holiday moorings

We have 16 moorings that can be hired by the night.

Minimum third party insurance compulsory.

  • per night (excludes slipway fee): £15.76 at Belle Isle, Waterhead, Fell Foot and Parsonage Bay
  • winter let holiday moorings (November to March): £315.60

The maximum overall length for a holiday mooring is 11m.

Short term jetty berthing

Short term jetty berthing is currently not permitted, we will update this page as and when circumstances change.

Ferry Nab public jetties only:

  • pre booked berth for up to 24hrs (maximum 3 pre-bookable berths): £41.40
  • penalty fee for non payment of overnight charges: £56.40

All powered boats on Windermere, whether in use, moored, for private use or business must have a current National Park boat registration.
