Bowness and Windermere parks

Bowness Promenade

Bowness Promenade is an area of formal planting and benches, with spectacular views across Windermere lake. This area has access to boating, shops, restaurants and cafes.

The Glebe

The Glebe is a large grassed area next to the Promenade with a bandstand that holds performances regularly during the summer months. There are also tennis courts and pitch and putt and crazy golf courses. The sports facilities at the Glebe are operated by our leisure providers Better.

Facilities at the Glebe Park

Queen's Park

This is a popular park in Windermere with a football pitch, cricket pitch, crown green bowling, tennis courts, squash pavilion, children’s play area and skate park.

Rayrigg Meadow

This recreation ground is part of the Millerground area on Rayrigg Road beside Lake Windermere. It has a:

  • outdoor adventure centre
  • full size football pitch
  • children's play area
  • picnic areas
  • lake frontage with public jetties and swimming areas

The Millerground Enhancement Group have raised over £200,000 to improve the footpaths and provide a new playground. The playground is now open and work will continue to make an accessible path to the lake shore. Some of the paths may be closed for short periods while these improvements take place but we will keep disruption to a minimum.

If you would like to know more about this project or would like to sponsor a seat or a picnic bench at this location please contact the Parks and Open Spaces team.
