Sheltered Housing schemes provide accommodation for people to live independently but there is usually a scheme manager to contact during office hours.
South Lakes Housing is one of the main providers of housing for older persons and people with disabilities in South Lakeland.
There are schemes in:

Vacancies are advertised on Cumbria Choice.
You need to register on Cumbria Choice and make bids on vacancies.
Sheltered schemes do not provide personal care packages. However should support or assistance be required in the future, in most instances residents would be permitted to arrange their own providers to assist with their individual care needs.

|The Abbeyfield Society||
The Abbeyfield Society is a registered national charity and provides ‘family style’ houses for older people who are unable or don’t wish to live alone but still want independence.
They have a care home in Milnthorpe (Telephone: 01539 562 251) with 24 hour care and, supported housing in Ulverston (Telephone: 01229 582 265).
Abbeyfield has a number of other properties in the wider Cumbria and Lancashire areas.
Anchor Trust is a not for profit organisation helping older people live independently. Anchor Trust has properties both for rent and purchase. Retirement properties can be bought in the Windermere, Ambleside, Coniston and, Kirkby Lonsdale areas. Rented homes, Care and Extra Care homes can be found in the North Lakes area; Penrith, Cockermouth, Keswick and Lazonby.

Gatesbield is a sheltered scheme in Windermere for independent retired persons. Care services are not provided but individuals can arrange their own care services from their own providers should they need it in the future. Accommodation is for Quakers and local persons sympathetic to the principles of Quakers.
