Recycling centres and recycling banks

There are a number of recycling centres and recycling banks across the district. The guidance below outlines where they are located and what items are accepted.

Household Waste Recycling Centres
You can recycle a large range of items at Westmorland and Furness Council's Household Waste Recycling Centres.
These include facilities for batteries, electrical goods, textiles, paint and books.

Large vehicle permits
Recycling centres do not accept trade waste and only certain vehicles can use the sites subject to a permit scheme.
If you drive a van, pickup, flatbed, or tow a twin-axle trailer up to three metres long you will need to get a free permit.

Recycling banks
These smaller recycling banks are provided for domestic recycling. But not domestic household waste.
There is no commercial waste recycling at these sites.
The recycling banks can be used for:
- clean aluminium foil, aluminium and steel cans
- card and paper
- glass
- plastic containers
- plastic bags
The banks are designed to be used for materials that will fit through the slots provided. Please take larger items to the recycling centres.
Please rinse out any glass bottles, jars, plastic containers and cans.
