Why we're collecting your data

Why Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council are collecting your personal data and how it will be used

Your name and email address is being collected as an essential part of the Bay Outline Proposal for a new Morecambe Bay Unitary Authority consultation. Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council will depersonalise (anonymise) your name and email address before analysis.

Legal basis for processing your personal data

The Data Protection Act 2018 and General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 Article 6 states that, as local government bodies, Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council may process personal data as necessary for the effective performance of a task carried out in the public interest, in this instance, the Bay Outline Proposal for a new Morecambe Bay Unitary Authority consultation.

With whom Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council will be sharing your personal data

Your personal information will be shared with Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council and external contractors analysing consultation findings on behalf of Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council. Once data has been analysed and consultation is concluded, it will then be stored by Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council with all more sensitive personal data redacted (removed).

Your name and email address will be held for two years from the closure of the consultation and then destroyed by Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council.

Your rights, e.g. access, rectification, erasure

The data Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council are collecting is your personal data, and you have considerable say over what happens to it. You have the right:

a. to see what data Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council have about you

b. to ask Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council to stop using your data, but keep it on record

c. to ask Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council to have all or some of your data deleted or corrected

d. to lodge a complaint with the independent Information Commissioner (ICO) if you think Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council are not handling your data fairly or in accordance with the law.
