Casterton Parish Election June 2019
At the recent election for Casterton Parish Council only one councillor was nominated. This meant that Casterton Parish Council didn't have enough councillors to enable it to function legally.
As a result, South Lakeland District Council made an order to temporarily appoint District Councillors Kevin Lancaster and Ian Mitchell, as well as Cumbria County Councillor Nick Cotton to Casterton Parish Council, until the vacancies were filled.
We re-ran the parish election for the vacant seats. If the election was contested, the poll would have been held on Thursday, 13 June. However, there were fewer candidates than there were vacancies, so the election was uncontested and a poll will not be held.
The nominated candidates will become members of Casterton Parish Council. The Council still have one vacancy, but there will now be enough parish councillors for the Council to functional legally.
