How to respond to your household enquiry form (HEF)

You must respond to your household enquiry form (HEF) even if there are no changes.

There are several ways to respond to your HEF. You'll need your postcode and two-part security number to hand. Your security number is printed on the first page of your form.

Respond to your HEF online

No change

You can respond to your HEF in one of the following ways:

  • using the HEF online form above
  • calling the automated telephone service. Your security code and the phone number is printed on the front page of your HEF
  • sending a text message. Your security code and the number can be found on the first page of your HEF
  • contacting the office by telephone. The number is 01539 733 333
  • by post, using the envelope provided

You can't use the automated telephone or text message service if you need to change your household details. You can respond by:

  • using the HEF online form above
  • post, using the envelope provided. Please cross out the names of anyone who is no longer living at your address, add the names of anyone who has moved in and make any changes to the details of the people we already have registered there
  • contacting the office by telephone. The number is 01539 733 333

Anyone who is added to the property will be sent a separate invitation to register (also called an 'ITR') form.

If you use the online response service, the system will give you the option of entering your basic details or your full details. If you select basic, we'll send you an ITR afterwards. If you enter your full details (this includes your National Insurance number) the system will take your registration at the same time, so we won't need to send you an ITR.

If your voting method is changed on a HEF this doesn't automatically mean you now have a postal or proxy vote. We'll send you an application form, which you must complete.

Being added to a HEF doesn't automatically put you on the Electoral Register, you must also complete any registration forms we send to you.

If you made a mistake when you responded

Please call us on 01539 733 333 and we'll make any changes needed, your security code won't work if you try to use it to respond again.

If you have received a HEF by email

The link to respond to your email HEF has now been closed. If you haven't responded, you should receive a paper form in August.
