Development Management Policies
We are currently preparing a Development Management Policies Development Plan Document (DPD) for South Lakeland outside the National Parks. This document will provide detailed policies that will be used in the determination of planning applications, and help manage and shape the quality of new development.
At present development proposals are assessed against the following:
- Local Plan Core Strategy (PDF/4.36MB/180 pages)
- Land Allocations documents
- 'saved' policies of the South Lakeland Local Plan 2006
Some policies in the South Lakeland Local Plan 2006 and some topic areas covered by other existing policies require updating or supplementing to reflect changes in national policy and local circumstances.
The Publication Development Management Policies DPD (PDF/3.4MB/98 pages) was approved at our Full Council on 12 October 2017 and was published for a 6 week period for representations to be made. The representation period closed on 14 December 2017. All documents relating to the publication DPD are available to view on Development Management Policies DPD Publication documents.
Over the coming days, we will be working to upload responses made by letter and email and will endeavour to have all responses available to view online by Friday 22 December 2017. Responses made online to the publication DPD are already available to view. In the New Year, we will review all the responses made and begin work towards the submission of the DPD to the Secretary of State for Examination by an Independent Inspector.
The purpose of the Examination is to consider whether the DPD has been prepared in accordance with the Duty to Cooperate, legal and procedural requirements, and whether it is 'sound'. In order to be 'sound', the document must be positively prepared, effective, justified and consistent with national policy.
