Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Development Plan
The Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) covers part of South Lakeland and part of Lancaster District.
Together with Lancaster City Council, we are preparing a dedicated Development Plan Document (DPD) for the whole of the AONB. The DPD will form part of both Councils' Local Plans. It will identify sites for new housing and employment to contribute towards meeting local needs and will set out planning policies to ensure that development reflects the AONB designation.
The timetable for preparing this document is set out in our Local Development Scheme.
Once adopted, the DPD will complement the Arnside and Silverdale AONB Management Plan 2014 to 2019.
The Publication Arnside and Silverdale AONB DPD (PDF/3.4MB/93 pages) was approved at our Full Council on 12 October 2017 and Lancaster City Council's Full Council on 27 September 2017 and has now been published for a 6 week period before it is submitted to the Secretary of State for Examination by an Independent Inspector. There are also a number of other supporting documents to the DPD, to view these please see Arnside and Silverdale AONB DPD Publication documents.
The purpose of the Independent Examination is to consider whether the DPD has been prepared in accordance with the Duty to Cooperate, legal and procedural requirements, and whether it is 'sound'. In order to be 'sound', the document must be positively prepared, effective, justified and consistent with national policy.
Comments on the DPD are invited between 2 November 2017 and 5pm 14 December 2017 in accordance with the Statement of Representations Procedure (PDF/140KB/3 pages).
Comments should be made by:
- using our online consultation response facility
- filling in and returning an AONB DPD response form (PDF/1.6MB/8 pages)
When making your representations, you must set out clearly whether you consider the DPD to be legally compliant and sound and, if not, what changes you wish to see to make it so. Further information on how to complete your response is provided in the accompanying Guidance Notes (PDF/54KB/2 pages).
Response forms can be returned by post to Development Plans, South Lakeland House, Lowther Street, Kendal, Cumbria LA9 4DQ.
Alternatively, forms can be returned via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Any representations received after the deadline (5pm 14 December 2017) will not be accepted.
