Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Development Plan
The Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) covers part of South Lakeland and part of Lancaster District.
Together with Lancaster City Council, we are preparing a dedicated Development Plan Document (DPD) for the whole of the AONB. The DPD will form part of both Councils' Local Plans. It will identify sites for new housing and employment to contribute towards meeting local needs and will set out planning policies to ensure that development reflects the AONB designation.
The timetable for preparing this document is set out in our Local Development Scheme.
Once adopted, the DPD will complement the Arnside and Silverdale AONB Management Plan 2014 to 2019.
The Publication Arnside and Silverdale AONB DPD (PDF/3.4MB/93 pages) was approved at our Full Council on 12 October 2017 and Lancaster City Council's Full Council on 27 September 2017 and published for a 6 week period for representations to be made. The representation period closed on 14 December 2017. All documents relating to the publication AONB DPD are available to view on Arnside and Silverdale AONB DPD Publication documents.
Over the coming days, we will be working to upload responses made by letter and email and will endeavour to have all responses available to view online by Friday 22 December 2017. Responses made online to the publication AONB DPD are already available to view. In the New Year, we will review all the responses made and begin work towards the submission of the AONB DPD to the Secretary of State for Examination by an Independent Inspector.
The purpose of the Examination is to consider whether the DPD has been prepared in accordance with the Duty to Cooperate, legal and procedural requirements, and whether it is 'sound'. In order to be 'sound', the document must be positively prepared, effective, justified and consistent with national policy.
