More space to enable small and medium-sized enterprises to thrive and develop effectively and sustainably is now available, thanks to South Lakeland District Council.

Phase 2 of SLDC's transformational redevelopment of its headquarters at South Lakeland House in Kendal – to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the council’s main accommodation in Kendal as part of the authority’s Customer Connect transformation programme – has been completed.

The latest work has created a new professional and flexible enterprise centre in Kendal town centre – Kendal Business Hub, with nine spacious, attractive suites for rent and hot-desking opportunities, and meeting areas for hire, enabling businesses to take up short-term residency or hire rooms for meetings, training and conferences.

Available to rent at competitive prices, this is a low risk and fuss-free opportunity to grow and expand your business, whether freelancers fed up with working alone from home or start-ups looking to branch out and find their own space. Packages include the use of meeting rooms/booths and the dining and refreshment area.

It follows the success of the MintWorks on Highgate, which has supported hundreds of small businesses and clients since it opened.

Councillor Robin Ashcroft, SLDC's Portfolio Holder for Economy, Culture and Leisure, said: "It gives me enormous pleasure and pride to see Kendal Business Hub completed and ready to build on and enhance the benefits our Mintworks facility has brought to the South Lakeland economy.

"This transformation of South Lakeland House truly demonstrates our commitment to supporting business growth and job creation. I would urge anybody who thinks this could be the place for them to take the next step on their business journey to come in and have a look."

If this great flexible, modern and affordable opportunity sounds like just what you need to support your business in the next stage of its development, contact to find out more and to book a viewing. Tours can be arranged on Wednesday July 6.

Phase 2 completes SLDC's project to reconfigure Kendal Town Hall to make it more accessible for customers and community groups and put South Lakeland District Council “at the heart of the high street”.

Work included moving the main SLDC reception area to the front of the town hall and opening up more spaces inside the town hall for use by community organisations, with the completion of phase two bringing savings from a more efficient building, reducing business rates and maintenance costs and additional income from letting out office space.

Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, with Cumbria County Council as the accountable body, provided funding of £439,522 towards the project through the Growth Deal made available to the CLEP from the Government’s Northern Powerhouse initiative.

Jo Lappin, chief executive of Cumbria LEP said: “The LEP was pleased to invest Growth Deal funding to help develop the Kendal Business Hub, which will provide additional business space in Kendal. Importantly, it will offer flexible arrangements, which will help smaller businesses to develop and grow.”
