Tractor dealership takes shape

Work is nearing completion on a major new tractor dealership which is being built on land near the M6 motorway in South Cumbria.
The showroom and service centre, specialising in the John Deere range of agricultural machinery, is under construction next to the auction mart at Crooklands near Kendal.
The development is expected to create up to 30 new jobs.
Earlier this year South Lakeland District Council’s Planning Committee agreed that the chosen site, which is already supporting farmers and the rural economy, was the perfect location for the new tractor dealership.
Councillor Graham Vincent, Portfolio Holder for Economy and Assets, said: “This major development will bring welcome investment and jobs into South Lakeland. The auction mart and livestock market has already become a successful rural hub where this new dealership and service centre will sit perfectly.
“John Deere is a global brand and we are delighted the company wants to invest in the infrastructure and future of South Lakeland.”
SLDC’s Planning Committee was told the new dealership and service centre was predicted to have an annual turnover of around £18million.
The business will be run by Cornthwaite Agricultural Ltd, specialists who already hold the franchise for John Deere in Lancashire and Cheshire.
“As a council we are committed to delivering opportunities for sustainable economic growth across South Lakeland and this development represents a very exciting opportunity which we are delighted to see nearing completion,” added Cllr Vincent.
