Sandbags available as precautionary measure this weekend

30 October 2020

With heavy rain forecast this weekend, South Lakeland District Council is making stocks of sandbags available at locations across the district as a precautionary measure.

The depot at Canal Head, Kendal will be open on Saturday 31 October from 8am to 4pm, and on Sunday 1 November from 9am to midday. Depot staff will not be wearing face coverings or shields due to the weather conditions they will be working in, but we would ask members of the public to wear face coverings unless they are exempt and to follow social distancing.

The arrangements in place will be very similar to click and collect at supermarkets. On arrival, please open your car boot and stand back while our staff put sandbags into your car. Our staff will then stand back while you close the boot and depart.

Sandbags can also be picked up by residents from SLDC depots at North Lonsdale Road in Ulverston and at Ecclerigg, near Windermere, without the need to enter the depot premises.

Stocks of sandbags are also being put in place at:

  • Broad Street car park, Windermere
  • by the Royalty Cinema, Bowness
  • Low Fold car park, Ambleside
  • and Rothay Holme car park, Ambleside.

We will be keeping a close eye on the situation throughout the weekend.
