Queen names councillor in New Year honours
7 January 2019
A South Lakeland councillor has spoken of his delight at being recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours List.
Councillor John Holmes, who represents the Bowness & Levens ward, has been an elected district Member since 2010 and will be made an MBE for his services to the community.
Cllr Holmes (pictured below) is a part of several of our committees, including lake administration, licensing, planning and the Member support steering group.
“I have never sought or expected any reward for serving the community beyond the enjoyment of helping others,” said Cllr Holmes.
“However, I am absolutely thrilled that Her Majesty has honoured me in this way.”
As well as being a district councillor, Cllr Holmes is chairman of The Bendrigg Trust, one of our representatives on South Lakes Housing, a founder of First Responders and trustee of the Lakeland Housing Trust.
In addition Cllr Holmes is also a church warden and a governor at Crosthwaite Church of England School.
