Green waste collections temporarily suspended
6 March 2018
Residents are being advised that green waste collections have been temporarily suspended across South Lakeland to allow our teams to catch-up on refuse collections missed during the recent adverse weather.
Snow and icy conditions made it impossible for crews to collect grey waste and recycling in many areas of the district last week.
A decision was therefore taken to suspend green waste collections to free up more crews to focus on catching up with the missed household waste and recycling.
Green waste collections will resume on 12 March.
Residents are being advised not to leave their green bins out for emptying if they have a collection due between now and 12 March.
Our spokesperson said: “Although some parts of the district experienced little disruption due to last week’s snow and ice, many other areas had significant problems and we were unable to make collections.
“So that we can now catch-up on the grey bins and recycling we’ve prioritised these collections and suspended green waste for a short period so that we can divert the crews.
“The advice is that if you’ve had your grey bin or recycling missed then please leave it out and the crews will be returning as soon as possible. We are aware of the areas missed and are working as quickly as possible to get back to you.
“But please take your green bin back in for now, but put it back out again for your next scheduled collection after 12 March.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but we trust that our residents will appreciate why we have taken the decision to suspend green waste collections for a short time and we ask for residents’ support and patience as our staff work to get our service back to business as usual.’’
