Eligible businesses urged to apply for Restart Grants
Last Updated: 25 May 2021
Businesses eligible for the government's one-off Restart Grants are being urged to apply before next month's closing date.
The grants for businesses affected by the coronavirus restrictions are being administered by South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) in two strands – non-essential retail businesses (Strand One); and hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym or sport business premises (Strand Two). This includes new businesses who are registered for business rates (even if they are in receipt of rates relief) and were trading before 1 April.
Councillor Robin Ashcroft, Portfolio Holder for Economy, Culture and Leisure, said: "We know how vital these grants are to businesses working hard to reopen an operate safely. If you think you could be eligible for a Restart Grant then please go to our website, check the criteria and get your application in as soon as possible. There’s even a checklist to help you apply."
In Strand One, businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or below will receive £2,667, a rateable value over £15,000 and less than £51,000 will receive £4,000 and a rateable value of £51,000 or over will receive £6,000.
In Strand Two, businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or below will receive £8,000, a rateable value over £15,000 and less than £51,000 will receive £12,000 and a rateable value of £51,000 or over will receive £18,000.
Applications close at midnight on June 30. After this no applications can be accepted.
The Restart Grant scheme is for businesses in the business ratings list only.
We have paid just over half of our £32 million allocation so far to just over 2,000 businesses since applications opened on April 23.
It should take no longer than 15 minutes to fill out the application form if you have everything with you to do so. Applicants should consult the Restart Grant eligibility criteria and checklist on the website first.
More details on other support available – including business rate relief, free business support and advice available to businesses in South Lakeland – can also be found on the SLDC website.
