Council reveals iPad winners

Last Updated: 16 June 2021

Five lucky residents have won an iPad after signing up to the new online My Account feature from South Lakeland District Council (SLDC).

During the coronavirus pandemic, many residents have welcomed the ability to contact the council, find information and request services in a digital way. My Account makes that even easier by allowing customers to access a range of services quickly and easily on their smartphone, tablet or laptop at a time that suits them - everything from requesting a new recycling box to applying for Covid business support grants.

So far nearly 7,000 residents have signed up for a My Account, and everyone who did so before 17 May was automatically entered into a randomised prize draw to win one of five 10-inch screen 32GB iPads.

The five delighted winners can now be revealed as:

  • Peter Scott, Ambleside
  • Sarah Redmayne, Bowness-on-Windermere
  • June West, Grange-over-Sands
  • Phil Ridley, Kendal
  • Natalie Hewes, Troutbeck.

Natalie Hewes, of Troutbeck, said she was looking forward to using her new iPad with her fiancé Owen. “It will come in handy for when we are travelling around with our six-month-old baby, Orla,” she said.

“As a busy mum it’s really important for me to be able to quickly and easily access My Account for SLDC. I’ve found it’s been a huge help when needing to report a problem, order more waste collection bins or just to keep myself updated with what’s going on in my area and would recommend anyone local to join up.”

Meanwhile, Peter Scott, of Ambleside, said: “I have found My Account not only useful for all the information it supplies but also for contacting SLDC. My recent query about the street lights in Millans Park was responded to immediately and much appreciated.”

My Account is designed to make life easier for customers by offering better access to council services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. New features are being added all the time, and My Account can be used to check details about your Council Tax and your local area, including planning applications, bin and recycling collection dates, and how to contact your ward councillor.

My Account is the latest innovation in SLDC’s Customer Connect programme, which has seen a bright and welcoming new Reception area opened at Kendal Town Hall, putting the council “at the heart of the high street”.

The entire organisation has been restructured to create a more flexible and customer-focused workforce. The main council offices, South Lakeland House, are also being remodelled to create Mintworks 2, high-quality office space for businesses to help support job creation and economic growth.

Signing up for a My Account only takes a few minutes and residents simply need an email address. Sign up at: www.southlakeland.gov.uk/myaccount
