Communities encouraged to have their say on planning engagement
26 July 2018
We are asking residents to have their say on a document that outlines how we consult with communities during planning processes.
The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets out how and when we will engage communities and stakeholders on a variety of planning related procedures, from statutory policy to outlining how communities will be consulted on planning applications.
Last week (18 July), our Cabinet approved a six week consultation period on a revised SCI, which will take place until 5pm on Friday, 7 September.
Following the consultation process, the draft document - along with any additional changes - will be submitted to Full Council in October to be considered for adoption as part of our planning policy.
Changes in national legislation require planning authorities to update SCI documents.
Despite consultation no longer being a legal requirement on SCI documents, we consider it important that the views of the community and stakeholders are taken into account.
A paper copy of the revised SCI is available to view at the following locations during normal opening hours:
- South Lakeland House, Lowther Street, Kendal LA9 4DQ
- District Council Offices, Coronation Hall, County Square, Ulverston LA12 7LZ
- Libraries in Kendal, Ulverston, Kirkby Lonsdale, Milnthorpe, Grange and Arnside
Comments on the document are encouraged through the online consultation response facility.
However responses can also be made via email: firstname.lastname@example.org or by post.
Comments made by post should be addressed to:
- Development Plans Manager, South Lakeland District Council, South Lakeland House, Lowther Street, Kendal LA9 4DQ
