Change of Council Tax Direct Debit reference
29 January 2018
Residents who pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit have been sent letters to explain that they have been allocated a new customer account reference number.
We are introducing a new unified computer system as part of improvements to our service, and the change in system means new account reference numbers have been created.
Customers do not need to do anything.
The letters are for information only. We are required to notify customers about the change but if you pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit it will continue to be collected in the normal way and you will not need to complete a new Direct Debit instruction. You will also continue to benefit from the protection of the Direct Debit Guarantee.
The only thing you may notice is that on your bank statement the next Council Tax Direct Debit may appear as the first payment under the new reference number.
If you have any questions about the change please contact the taxation team on 01539 793245.
