Additional business rates relief announced in the March 2017 Budget
10 March 2017
In the Budget on 8 March 2017 the chancellor announced a package of measures providing additional relief for some business rate payers in 2017/18.
We had already printed our business rate bills for 2017/18 before this additional help was announced, and ratepayers will receive them shortly.
The government has not yet provided full details of the relief schemes to councils.
Businesses who may be eligible for some relief include pubs with rateable values below £100,000, ratepayers who get Small Business Rates Relief or Rural Rate Relief this year but are not eligible in 2017/18. As soon as details are announced we will identify eligible ratepayers and invite them to apply for the relief.
In addition we anticipate we will receive an allocation to support those businesses that face the steepest increases in their business rates bills as a result of the 2017 revaluation and can demonstrate hardship. Further details of how to apply for this relief will be published on our website in due course.
