Parking Permits - Residents
Residential parking permits are administered by South
Lakeland District Council on behalf of Cumbria County Council,
which is the Highways Authority.
There are various residents' parking schemes in place throughout
the area. These are designed to give preferential treatment

parking zones apply. However, a permit does not

How can we get a new Residents' Parking Area?
The South Lakeland area is covered by a two-tier council
system. Cumbria County Council is responsible for the
introduction of all new residents' schemes; South Lakeland Council
has the responsibility of enforcing the schemes. Cumbria
County Council will look at the feasibility, the number of
residents applying and whether the scheme can be
implemented. After consultation with the residents and South
Lakeland Council a scheme may be adopted.
All applications for new schemes should be addressed
to:

How much does a permit cost and what do I get?
At the present time all residents' permits are free on
application, although this may change in the future.
Applicants may be given one resident's permit and one
visitor's permit dependent on the individual circumstances.
(The only charge is when you request a replacement, as explained
below).
What happens if I move house
If you move away from the area, you must return any permits to
us. If you move within a residents' parking area, you must
inform us of your new address.
I've changed my car - what do I do?
Please Contact Parking
Services to let us know your new registration
number. There is a £10 administrative charge to replace the
permit; you can pay by cheque (payable to SLDC) or by debit/credit
card if you ring 01539 797534. You need to return the permit
in order for it to be changed to the new registration. To
cover you for a few days while you are without it, place a note on
the dashboard showing the permit number which begins with
the prefix SCX.
I've lost my permit- what do I do?
You should write to us and explain that the permit has been
lost. We will cancel the permit and re-issue a new one.
There is an administrative fee of £10 to replace the lost
permit. You can send us a cheque or postal order, or we can
take a debit/credit card payment if you call 01539 797534.
Please note that we can only replace one lost permit in any
twelve-month period.
