Housing Benefit Information

Housing Benefit is a Social Security benefit administered by the Council to help you pay your rent if you are on a low income.  It can be claimed by people who pay rent for Council properties or people who pay rent to Housing Associations or private landlords.

Online Benefits Calculator

If your income is low you may qualify for help with your Rent and Council Tax.

We now have an online benefits calculator which you can use to provide an estimate of how much Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit you may be able to get. You can also use it to check to see what will happen if your circumstances change.

If you are already claiming, you must still write to us about the change straight away.

PLEASE REMEMBER!
The online calculator just provides an estimate using the information you supply and may not be the actual amount of benefit you are entitled to if you have any queries contact the Benefits section by phone on 01539 733333 or email

Can I claim Housing Benefit?
