Grants for Private Properties
There are over 46,000 dwellings in South Lakeland of which over 88%
are in private ownership. The district’s private sector housing
stock is both a national and local asset. South Lakeland District
Council are committed to ensuring that there is satisfactory
housing provision for all residents in the area.
The Council recognises that although the ultimate responsibility
for the private housing stock rests with owners concerned, public
intervention is sometimes necessary to ensure that this asset is
protected. In certain situations therefore the Council
provides discretionary grant aid to assist in the repair and/or
improvement of properties. The finances available to the Council
each year are very limited such that it is unable to help all
persons that live in unsatisfactory accommodation.
