Collection of Large Household Items
Our Collection Service
Collections of large household items such as electrical
goods and furniture collections are made from inside the
home and by appointment.
How the service operates
To request a collection telephone our Customer Contact Centre on
0845 050 4434.
There is a charge for collection, depending on the number of
items you wish to have collected. A single collection of up to
three items costs £25. Extra items cost £8.00 per item.
There is a maximum of ten items per collection.

Payment is required when you make your request. Payment can be
made by credit card, debit card, cheque or postal order.
Following your request you will receive a call from right2work.
They will ask for more information about the goods you wish to have
collected, and arrange an appointment with you to collect the
items.
Collections will be made between 8am and 4pm from Tuesday to
Saturday, with evening collections until 8pm each Thursday.
You will also be offered the opportunity to receive a text
message prior to collection letting you know that the
collectors are on their way.
Collections will be possible from inside the home, or if you
wish from a location outside the property.
The collectors will provide proof of identification. If you have
any doubt about the identification of the collectors please
telephone our Customer Contact Centre on 0845 050 4434. You should
not allow any persons to enter your home or collect your items
unless you are sure of their identity.
Collectors are only able to accept items that have been
booked and paid for. They will not be able to accept any other
donations.
right2work provide employment and training opportunities
for disabled and disadvantaged people in South Lakeland.
Wherever possible the items collected will be refurbished for
re-use. Items will only be sent to landfill as a last resort.
Later this year right2work will be opening a retail outlet at
Dockray Hall in Kendal where you will be able to buy items that
have been re-furbished.

Household Waste Recycling Centres
There are four Household Waste Recycling Centres in South
Lakeland, which are owned by Cumbria County Council. These can be
used for the disposal of waste that will not fit into a wheelie
bin. There is no charge for householders wishing to use these
centres.

Freecycle and Freegle
These are voluntary organisations with local groups that
promote the re-use and recycling of unwanted goods.
Using Freecycle or Freegle could give your unwanted items a
new home.

Many items of furniture that are discarded are still in good
condition or could be re-furbished.

Disposing of Waste Within the Law
You must make sure that your waste is collected by a licensed
waste carrier. Licensed waste carriers are registered with the
Environment Agency. You can check if a company is listed by
contacting the Environment Agency on 08708 506506, or online using
their website.
