Specific Site Investigations
At sites where the desktop study has shown that a pollutant
linkage potentially exists a detailed site investigation needs to
be carried out. This will incorporate an appropriate ground
investigation and risk assessment, to determine
the risk to users of the site. The following guidance and standards
detail how this should be carried out.
- British Standard BS 10175:2001 Investigation of potentially
contaminated sites Code of Practice. This revised version of BSIs
DD175:1987 contains technical advice on the design and
implementation of site characterisation (including site
investigation) activities for contaminated land. [A]

In assessing whether a suitable and sufficient contaminated
land investigation has been completed site reports should refer to
the above documentation as appropriate.
