The Environmental Protection Group provides many of the services associated with the Environmental Health functions of a District Council.

Air Quality

Monitor atmospheric air quality.  Enforce legislation to prevent dark smoke emissions and control emissions of other pollutants to the air from regulated industrial processes. 
 
Maintenance of the Public Registers for Local Authority Pollution Prevention and Control and Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control.
 

Drainage and Land Drainage

Use powers under land drainage legislation to minimise the risk of flooding of properties.  Enforce public health legislation in respect of sewerage and drainage.
 

Noise

Use legislation to control noise to levels which do not amount to a statutory nuisance.

Public Health and Nuisance

Public health and nuisance - Investigate complaints and consider whether the complaint constitutes a statutory nuisance.  Ensure filthy and verminous premises are dealt with.

Contaminated Land

Identify Contaminated Land and ensure cleanup by appropriate bodies.  Maintenance of the Public Registers for Contaminated Land.

Dog Control

The Council provides collection of stray dogs which have been reported and are being held by members of the public.

Sustainable Development

Consider planning applications to ensure sustainable development.

Radiation

Carry out reassurance radiation monitoring. Provide information and advice on remediation to reduce Radon exposure levels.  Maintenance of the Public Registers required under the Radioactive Substances Act 1993.

Pest Control

Ensure that both vertebrate and invertebrate pests are controlled so as not to impact on human health
