Listed Buildings

There are over 1,000 listed buildings and structures of  "special architectural or historic interest" in South Lakeland (outside the national parks).

Listed buildings vary greatly in age and type and include features such as milestones, crosses and bridges as well as churches, houses and cottages.

The South Lakeland Local Plan contains policies to ensure development proposals respect and preserve listed buildings where possible.

We work with English Heritage, civic societies and property owners to seek the repair of listed buildings considered to be at risk.
