Environment Improvements and Conservation led Regeneration
We undertake a programme of environmental improvements to
enhance the character of Conservation Areas and promote the
conservation-led regeneration of market towns - principally
Ulverston, Kendal and Milnthorpe. We seek to work in partnership
with Town and Parish Councils, local amenity groups and Civic
Societies and private property owners.
Improvement schemes undertaken in recent years include:
Ulverston
Rose Garden
Lower Brook Street
Queens Court
Upper Brook Street
The Gill
Kendal
Garth Heads
Dr Manning's Yard
Kendal Riverside
Waterside
Sepulchre Lane
Chapel Lane, Kendal
Milnthorpe
Milnthorpe Square
Kirkby Lonsdale
Church Street
Chapel Lane
The schemes represent a total investment of around £950,000 in
these town centres, of which around 50% is external funding from
the Heritage Lottery Fund, English Heritage, local town and parish
coun

cils, the North West
Development Agency and the European Union.
Several schemes are planned to contribute to the
Ulverston and Low Furness Market Towns Initiative Action
Plan, including the enhancement of Buxton Place car park
(as an important arrival point in the town) and also County Square
as a possible location for a proposed Laurel and Hardy
statue.
Schemes planned as part of the Kirkland
Partnerships regeneration plans include the Enhancement of
Peppercorn Lane Car park and a bridge link to Abbot Hall Park.
