Conservation Areas

South Lakeland District (outside of the national
parks) contains 11 Conservation Areas. The following were
designated between 1969 and 1993 on the basis of their "special
architectural or historic interest":
- Kendal
- Burton
- Heversham
- Kirkby Lonsdale
- Milnthorpe
- Beetham
- Ulverston

- Newlands
- Grange over Sands
- Cartmel
- Newlands
Local plan policy requires development proposals to preserve
or enhance the character of Conservation Areas.
Trees within Conservation Areas
If you intend to carry out work on trees in a Conservation
Area you should complete a 'Notification of Intent' or 'Application
to carry out work on a tree protected by a Tree Preservation Order'
as appropriate. You can
