South Lakeland has an extremely rich natural and built
heritage, including high quality landscapes and a wealth of
historic buildings and historical remains. This heritage
contributes much to the quality of life enjoyed by the district's
residents. It is also fundamental to the district's popularity as a
visitor destination and, consequently, makes a significant
contribution to its economic prosperity.
