CDs

Many charity shops accept CDs suitable for resale, or they can be deposited at the Oxfam banks situated at some of the recycling centres in the district.

CDs, DVDs and jewel cases can also be recycled if they are not suitable for re-sale by posting to:

CansCans

Manufacturing aluminium cans from recycled materials uses 75% less energy than using raw materials.

Steel and aluminium cans are collected from the kerbside and there are also can banks at many of the recycling centres, these can be used for both steel and aluminium cans.

Please make sure all cans are rinsed out and clean when recycling them.

Cardboard

Cardboard Bank

Clean cardboard can be recycled at some of the recycling centres in South Lakeland.

Please flatten or squash cardboard wherever possible. This maximises the amount of cardboard collected before the bank needs emptying.

Carrier Bags

Many supermarkets now have collections points to recycle plastic carrier bags, or sell durable bags that can be re-used many times. Some are even now providing bags made of potato starch that biodegrade naturally are much more environmentally friendly.
Please re-use bags instead of taking a new bag each time you go shopping.
Clean plastic bags can be recycled using the plastic banks at the recycling centres in South Lakeland. Also ask your local store if they have a scheme to recycle or re-use carrier bags.

Cat Litter

Cat litter should be disposed of in your grey landfill waste bin.

Catalogues

Soft-backed catalogues can be recycled in the paper box , however hard-backed catalogues cannot be recycled.

Charity Shops

There are many charity shops in the district that accept goods for re-sale. Please ensure all donated goods are in a reasonable and suitable condition for re-sale.

China Goods

Many charity shops accept good quality china foods for re-sale.

Christmas Cards

Christmas cards, along with other greetings cards, can be placed in the paper boxes used for kerbside collections. Some charities also operate collection points each January at supermarkets and stores around the district.

Christmas Trees

Christmas trees can be recycled using your green garden waste bin in January or taken to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Clinical Waste

Clinical waste includes human or animal tissue, blood or syringes. We provide a service to collect clinical waste from domestic properties.

Please talk to your medical practitioner if you require a service as they will normally arrange for collections to be made.

Clothing

Most charity shops accept good quality clothing for re-sale.

There are also a number of Salvation Army and Scope clothing banks at recycling centres throughout the district. The materials collected at these banks are sold to raise money which can then be used by the charities concerned.

Coffee Grounds

Coffee grounds can be used in your garden compost bin.

Composting

Composting is an excellent way to recycle garden and kitchen waste. You can make your own compost heap and make your garden flourish with your own compost.

Computers

You could try the Freecyle or Freegle websites as a way of giving the equipment away, or take it to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Computer Games

Some stores now operate schemes to re-sell used computer games. Please ask your local store if they will trade your used games.

Confidential Office Paper

There are several waste paper merchants in the North West that offer a collection service for confidential office paper. Please refer to your local telephone directory for details of the merchants in your area.

Cork

Cork is a natural product and can be chopped up to use in your home compost bin. Alternatively use old corks in the base of flowerpots when planting seedlings to retain moisture.

Credit Card Statements

Householders can shred bank and credit card statements then put the shredded paper in the blue paper box or in your home compost bin.

Crockery

Some charity shops accept crockery in a suitable condition for re-sale.

Curtains

Some charity shops accept curtains in a suitable condition for re-sale.
