Waste and Recycling at ChristmasRudolph the Recycling Reindeer

The festive period can mean an increase in the amount of waste that we generate. Not only do we buy more food and drink, we also buy cards and trees not to mention all the presents. Recycling as much of your waste as possible can help make a real difference to the environment we live in. Here are some of the ways to recycle your waste in South Lakeland.

Real Christmas Trees

If you have a small tree it can go in your green garden waste bin. Alternatively take your tree to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.
  • Ambleside, Rothay Holme. Open every day 8am to 6pm.
  • Grange-over-Sands. Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday 8am to 4pm.
  • Kendal, Canal Head. Open every day 8am to 4pm.
  • Ulverston, Morecambe Road. Open every day 8am to 6pm.

Christmas Cards

Christmas cards can go into your blue box. There are also numerous collection boxes provided by various charities at locations around the district.

Christmas Presents

If you receive something that is not quite what you want and cannot exchange it you could take it to a charity shop.

Also consider buying gifts that are environmentally-friendly, perhaps made from recycled materials.

Wrapping Paper

Wrapping paper cannot be recycled. Often fragments of sticky tape remain on the paper and this is a problem in the recycling process. Also there are many different types of wrapping paper, some of which are not made of recyclable material .
