Local Development Framework (LDF) Documents
The Local Development Framework is not a single document but a
folder of documents. The South Lakeland LDF will
include the following documents.
- Local Development Scheme (LDS) - This
document sets out the timetable for preparing the Local Development
Framework. The 2010 LDS was agreed by the Secretary
of State on 14th April 2010. A summary of the current
timetable is set out in the LDF Progress
Check.
- Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) The
Statement of Community Involvement was adopted on 13th September
2006. An addendum to the SCI was approved on 27 November 2008.
Development Plan Documents (DPDs)
- Core Strategy
- This document will set out overall planning policy framework for
the district (outside the National Parks) to 2025, and indicate the
overall share of development between towns and villages.
- Allocations of Land DPD - This
document will allocate specific sites to meet the district's
development and other needs to 2025, including the protection of
open spaces and review of development boundaries.
- Kendal Canal Head Area Action
Plan: This document will set out detailed proposals for
the regeneration of the Canal Head area in Kendal.
- Proposals Map - The proposals arising from each Development
Plan Document will be indicated on a Proposals
Map.
- Supplementary Planning
Documents - The council intends to prepare Supplementary
Planning Documents (SPDs) as part of the LDF. These will provide
more detailed guidance on specific issues to help developers put
together appropriate development proposals. One SPD has already
been produced - The Cumbria Wind Energy SPD - which was produced
jointly with Cumbria County Council and other Cumbrian planning
authorities.
- Annual Monitoring Report (AMR)
- the fifth AMR, which covers
the year 2008/09, was submitted to the Secretary of
State in December 2009. The AMR includes a review of
the milestones for preparing the Local Development Framework for
South Lakeland, and sets out a framework for monitoring the
policies of the South Lakeland Local Plan and the forthcoming Local
Development Framework.
- Sustainability Appraisal A Sustainability
Appraisal (SA) must be undertaken for each Development Plan
Document and Supplementary Planning Document produced as part of
the Local Development Framework. Sustainability Appraisal reports
will accompany each of the relevant LDF documents .

Local Development Framework documents are available for public
inspection at the following points in South Lakeland:
