Land Allocations Document to go public
Following two major consultations in 2011, South Lakeland
District Council will decide whether to approve the final Land
Allocations Document for publication at a special meeting of
Full Council on 18 January 2012. The publication will
include SLDC’s finalised list of proposed land allocations and the
policies that will guide development.
The Land Allocations Development Plan Document (DPD) allocates
land for new housing including affordable homes and employment as
well as protecting green spaces and green gaps from
development. The document lists sites to help meet the
districts needs for housing, affordable housing in particular and
new jobs.
See the News Release for more
information or see the
Council Land Allocation agenda papers. Full copies of
all documentation can be found on the
Document Browser.
Introduction
The Land Allocations document is a key part of the Local
Development Framework for South Lakeland. Its main purpose is to
allocate sites for housing, employment and other uses to meet
communities' needs in accordance with the overall requirements set
out in the
adopted Core Strategy.

Further Consultation - Summer 2011
Please note: the Further
Consultation has now closed. Thank you to everyone who
responded. All responses will be made available to view online as
soon as is practicable at http://www.southlakeland.gov.uk/ldf/consultation/
In response to issues raised in the previous
consultation, the Council sought people's views from 29
July to 9 September 2011 on some additional
matters.
You can still view the consultation
document , response form and lists
and maps of suggested alternative sites on
line.
Purpose of Further Consultation
The Council sought views on
3 additional matters:
- Alternative Sites put
forward by respondents to the earlier Land Allocations consultation
(January - April 2011);
- the Time Span of the Land
Allocations document
- The approach to development in Small
Villages, Hamlets and the Countryside.
We would also like to explain the
following important points on
the Further Consultation:
- it is only concerned with the 3
matters listed above, and not the earlier
consultation;
- you do not need to repeat any
comments you have already made in the previous
consultation;
- the alternative sites have been proposed
by others and not the District Council – you need not
repeat your earlier views on alternative sites if these
are unchanged;
- it will not be practicable to
assess and consult on any more new sites from this
point;
- we have sought to check the accuracy of
the lists and maps of alternative sites with those who proposed
them. But as necessary during the consultation corrections
to maps and lists were posted on the
Further Consultation document
browser.

Previous Consultation on Emerging Options (January to April
2011)
Thank you to everyone who commented on the consultation on
Emerging Options between January and April 2011. We received more
than 4,600 responses. You can view these on line at
http://www.southlakeland.gov.uk/ldf/consultation/
The Emerging Options maps and documents accompanying this
consultation remain available to view and download.
Later Steps
On 13 July the Council’s Cabinet agreed a revised timetable in
its report
for progressing Land Allocations, including the intention to
publish a final draft in the autumn of 2011.
The Council will take account of responses
to the earlier consultations and also those from this further
consultation before completing its assessment of sites. The Council
has not yet decided on its final preferred sites but intends to
publish a final plan later this year. You will then be able to make
final, formal representations. When the Plan has its Independent
Examination, the Inspector will take account of these formal
representations when considering the ‘soundness’ of the plan.
