Hedge Cutting
Hedge cutting is dependant on the species or specific
requirements.
The frequency will change where hedges encroach footpaths
or block access points or highways. They are then cut as
required.
The schedule of cutting is:
- Beech, once a year in July
- Conifer, once a year in July
- Laurel, once a year in August
- Privet, three times each year in May, July and September
- Mixed species, once a year in February to avoid nesting
birds
- Small ornamental species such as Box, Lonicera and Yew are cut
as required to retain their shape or form.
If a privately-owned hedge is encroaching onto footpaths or
the highway it can be reported to Cumbria County Council. The
telephone hotline number is 0845 609 6609.
