Control Of Stray Dogs

The Environmental Protection Act 1990: Sections 149-151

Control of DogsA couple of dogs

These sections of the Act require Local Authorities to deal with the problem of stray dogs within their district, to include the collection and detention of them for a specific period and the disposal thereafter if not claimed.

Dogs wearing a collar with identification are in the first instance returned directly to the owner.  If however, there is nobody to receive the dog, it will be placed in detention and the owner notified of the fact.

All stray dogs found without identification will be detained.

All dog owners are advised to ensure their dog carries identification in the form of a collar and tag bearing the owners telephone number, or a micro-chip.  Micro-chipping is carried out by the the Dogs Trust or local Vets Practices.
