Demolitions - Control and Advice

When intending to demolish a building or part of a building larger
than 1750 cubic feet, notice must be given to the Local Authority
which is usually a minimum of six weeks prior to work
commencing.
You should submit your intention in writing quoting
Section 80 of the Building Act 1984.
A location plan of the building and adjoining streets must be
provided together with a method statement for the demolition of
larger buildings. A block plan outlining the building(s) to be
demolished.
Statutory undertakers should also be notified in order that
they may arrange for their services to be properly sealed.
The Council will respond by serving a counter notice, under Section
81, setting out the requirements to safeguard persons, services and
adjoining structures.
