Standards Committee
The Council’s Standards Committee was established in 2001 as
part of the Modernisation of Local Government.
The role of the Committee is to monitor and advise both
District and Parish Councillors about the operation of the Codes of
Conduct.
The Codes of Conduct seek to ensure that Councillors are open,
fair and transparent in the conduct of their official duties and
that they respect others in the conduct of their public lives and
ensure that any decision-making on behalf of their Council is
properly carried out.
The Committee is made up of four District Councillors, three
Parish Members and three Independent Members. The main
functions of the Committee are to:-
- Promote and maintain high standards of conduct by councillors
and co-opted members.
- Assist councillors and co-opted members to observe the Codes of
Conduct.
- Monitor the operation of the Codes of Conduct.
- Dealing with initial assessment of complaints against
Members.
Any complaints will go to the Standards Assessment Sub -
Committee in the first instance who will decide whether the matter
should be referred for investigation.
The Standards for England is independent of the
Government, and provides guidance with regard to the code or
conduct and procedures to be adopted.
If you feel that a District or Parish Councillors has breached
the Code of Conduct, then please write to:-
