Code of Conduct for District Councillors
General Provisions
Following implementation of the Local Authorities (Model Code
of Conduct) Order 2007, the Council at it's meeting on 17 May 2007
has adopted a revised Code of Conduct in place of its existing code
adopted by the Council on 26 March 2002. This Code sets out
the standards of conduct required of Members. The Council
also adopted the ten General Principles of Conduct which govern the
conduct of Members of the Council.
All Councillors have a duty to abide by the Code of Conduct,
and sanctions can be taken against a Councillor who has been found
to have breached any part of the Code.

Statutory Register of Members'
Interests
The Council’s Monitoring Officer has to
maintain a Statutory Register of Members Interests that have been
brought to her attention. Councillors are obliged by law to
keep their Statutory Register up-to-date and to inform the
Monitoring Officer of any changes within 28 days of the relevant
event.
All appropriate registration forms for Councillors can
be obtained on the
Member's
forms page.
A copy of the up-to-date Statutory Register of Members
Interests can be inspected, free of charge, at South Lakeland
House, Lowther Street, Kendal, during normal office hours.
Please contact the Member Services Assistant on 01539
797765.
In keeping with the Council’s e-governance agenda, an
electronic copy of the Statutory Register of Members Interests may
be available to view on the website under individual Members'
details. The electronic copy is not, however, the Statutory
Register of Members Interests; although every effort will be taken
to ensure, as far as possible, that the electronic copy continues
to match the Statutory Register of Members Interests kept at South
Lakeland House. Members of the public should therefore be
careful to check both copies before relying upon the information
appearing in the electronic version.
Furthermore, as this electronic version is not a legal
requirement – just an exercise of local discretion – some
Councillors have chosen to “opt-out” of this electronic
version.
Gifts and Hospitality
Declarations of gifts and hospitality offered over the value
of £25 must also be declared on the Register of Interests
form.
Register of District Councillors’ Interests
The register of District Councillors Interests is open for
inspection by the public at South Lakeland House, Kendal, during
normal office opening hours. Please contact the Member
Services Department for more information.
Councillors must also declare, at meetings of the Council and
Cabinet, or meetings of committees at which they attend, if they
have an interest in any of the matters being discussed.

You can view the District Council’s
