Local Election Results - 4 May 2006

In the district elections on 4 May 2006, the Liberal Democrats retained their 8 seats and gained a further 9 seats - 6 from Labour, 2 from Conservatives and 1 from Independents.
 
The political balance of the council is now -
  • Liberal Democrat - 31
  • Conservative - 18
  • Labour - 2
  • Independent - 1
The Liberal Democrat's now have overall control of the Council, the first time any one political party has had control since the Council was established in 1974. A Leader, Cabinet and Committee Chairs will be appointed at the annual Council meeting on 16 May.
