Bid to Government for a Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership

Earlier this year the Government announced it was getting rid of Regional Development Agencies (RDA).

Instead Government has asked councils and business leaders to submit bids for Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) to replace them.

These LEPs will tackle issues including planning, housing, transport and infrastructure.

In the North West this means that the North West Development Agency, which provides funding for economic development and regeneration, will disappear.

Instead SLDC has joined with the other Cumbrian authorities and organisations including Cumbria Tourism, the National Farmers Union and NHS Cumbria and has submitted a LEP bid to Government.

The document was submitted on 6 October setting out proposals to create a public private partnership to drive enterprise, innovation and economic growth within the county.
