Council Tax Reduction Scheme
From 1st April 2013 Council Tax Benefit has been
abolished.
Council tax benefit has been abolished. From
1st April 2013 the Council’s benefit team administers a
localised Council Tax Reduction Scheme, this is the Government’s
Default Scheme part of which is also incorporated in
the
prescribed scheme. This will ensure that people
in receipt of Income Support, Income Based Job Seekers Allowance,
Income Related Employment and Support Allowance and Guarantee
Pension Credit will normally pay no council tax and that other
people on low incomes will have their bills reduced.
Please note that the Council’s Housing
Benefit and Council Tax Reduction Scheme leaflet
includes up to figures for any elements of the calculation that
have been subject to change (for example Applicable Amounts and
non-dependant deductions).
For more information or to request an application form please
contact the benefits team.
Online Benefits
Calculator
If your income is low you may qualify for help with your Rent
and Council Tax.
We now have an online benefits calculator which you can use to
provide an estimate of how much Housing Benefit and Council Tax
Benefit you may be able to get. You can also use it to check to see
what will happen if your circumstances change.
If you are already claiming, you must still write to us about
the change straight away.
PLEASE REMEMBER!
The online calculator just provides an estimate using the
information you supply and may not be the actual amount of benefit
you are entitled to.
If you have any queries or would like to make a claim, contact
the Benefits team and we will send an application form to
you.
