Reception, South Lakeland HouseTell Us Once

When someone has died, there are lots of things that need to be done, at a time when you probably least feel like doing them. One of these is contacting government departments and local council services that need to be told. Cumbria County Council and South Lakeland District Council are providing a service which will make things easier. This new service means that you can just tell us and these organizations will be contacted.

A new service was launched in December in South Lakeland called Tell Us Once which will help to reduce the amount of time you need to spend contacting government departments and organisations.

When someone has died, their death needs to be registered with the Registrar.Once that’s done, several other organisations may have to be contacted and given the same information.

We can help you to give the information to the Department for Work and Pensions and they can pass on this information to a number of other government departments and local council services for you.

When a death is registered, the Registrar will issue a unique reference number.  The customer can then either telephone the SLDC Customer Contact Centre on 0845 050 4434 or visit the SLDC offices in Kendal, Ulverston or Windermere to pass on the details which will save the customer having to notify all the separate agencies at a time which is very difficult for them.
