Participatory Budgeting Pilot
As part of the Government’s Localism agenda the Council wants to
help communities become empowered to deliver services differently
and see continuous improvements in their areas.
Using Participatory Budgeting (also known as community
budgeting) the council and a local community will work
together to look at the budgets for services in their
area. If the community feels that services are not
always appropriate intheir area this is the opportunity to be
at the centre of that decision making process.
The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) briefing
note provides more detail on what is currently understood
about the term ‘Participatory Budgeting’. South Lakeland District
Council is keen to find out whether any Parish or Town Councils (or
groups of local councils e.g. a LAP) would be interested in helping
lead the way in this new initiative. Under the pilot,
resources will be made available towards the cost of an independent
facilitator- if appropriate, community engagement and budget and
service evidence base work.
Expressions of interest have been invited from Parish, Town
Councils or from groups of parishes such as a Local Area
Partnerhsip in the South Lakeland District. Those wanting to
be involved in the Participatory Budgeting Pilot should clearly
demonstrate that they have the commitment to support this process
within their community.
