Markets
The small towns and larger villages of South Lakeland only
really grew to any prominence if they became trading centres,
whether it be for agricultural, mining or industrial
purposes.
Once any of these settlements was granted a Market Charter,
their future was virtually assured, and hence trading has continued
at such locations for hundreds of years.
The present policy of South Lakeland District Council is to
encourage the improvement of all its "trading centres" so that they
may continue to thrive for many years to come.
We are proud to promote our markets, indoor and out, as
"The Heart of Shopping in South Lakeland"
We hope you enjoy the magic of markets in South Lakeland
