Tobacco
Rates of smoking are lower in South Lakeland than the
national average, but approximately 13% of residents of the
district are still smoking. There is a great range of
benefits to quitting smoking, including:
- Saving money.
- Reduced risk of a fire in the home.
- Reducing the risk of second hand or passive smoking to those
around you. Second hand smoke doubles the risk of a child
developing chest illnesses, asthma and wheezing. Children who live
with smokers are also three times more likely to develop lung
cancer in later life compared with the children of non-smokers.
