Grounds Maintenance Safety
The Cumbria Health & Safety Liaison Group launched a
new publication 'Grounds Maintenanc

e
Safety' in October 2004.
This publication is aimed at
providing advice to the leisure industry which includes sports
clubs, hotels, tourist attractions, outdoor centres, caravan parks,
landscape gardeners and gardening contractors.
The purpose is to help employers
develop strategies to comply with all their legal health and safety
requirements and adopt current good industry practice.
The links below (which are in PDF format) include topics on
risk assessment work at heights, workplace transport, chemical
safety, manual handling, training, accident reporting and welfare
standards. The guide aims for a 'how to' approach which includes
references to other publications and websites if the reader
requires more information.
A training directory is included in
the package to assist companies to find suitable courses to ensure
that their employees are suitably trained for specialist tasks like
using chain saws or all-terrain-vehicles(ATVs).
A pro-forma health and safety policy
document is part of the paperwork to assist companies in developing
their own policies and procedures.
