from the general public regarding the removal and disposal of
asbestos cement products. The most common enquiries concern the
removal/disposal of garden sheds, garages and outbuildings
etc.
Asbestos in Council Owned Buildings
Asbestos Hazards in Council owned properties are recorded in the
Corporate Asbestos Register.

by address, postcode or property reference (UPRN) by using our

updated from our database daily at 6:00 pm.

Facts about Asbestos
- Asbestos cement contains approximately 15% white asbestos
(known as CHRYSOTILE)
- Breathing in asbestos fibres can lead to asbestos-related lung
diseases, mainly cancers, which kill more people than any other
single work-related illness.
Removal and disposal Legislation:
The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 is the main
legislation which is reinforced by the Environmental Protection Act
1990 [Part 2;Waste on Land, Section 33] prohibiting the deposit of
controlled waste on land unless a Waste Management Licence is in
force.
Asbestos must be disposed of as Hazardous
Waste in accordance with the Special Waste Regulations
2005.
For dumping/fly-tipping Hazardous Waste, the maximum penalty
on conviction is 12 months imprisonment or a £50,000 fine or
both.
