Alternative Enforcement Strategy for Low Risk Food Premises

The Food and Safety team have introduced a new scheme for the inspection of certain food businesses.

The frequency of visits made to food businesses is currently determined through a process of risk assessment. This results in higher risk premises being visited more frequently than those that are low risk.

This authority, with the backing of the Food Standards Agency and other local authorities has decided to pilot a system with the lowest risk premises. Those selected premises will be sent information regarding this process including a self-assessment form, a copy of which can be viewed below. The form is to assist businesses in making/checking simple areas within their businesses and will concentrate the attention of proprietors on particular food safety areas.

This form is designed to be copied and used weekly and may be utilised by any food business, although it has been designed specifically with lower risk business in mind. It does not therefore cover, in detail, areas that may require further examination and checking, such as those found in higher risk operations. You can also download the Low Risk Self Assessment Form, Alternative Inspection Questionnaire. and the Alternative Enforcement Strategy.
