Grasmere Cemy. 2Grasmere Cemetery

Pye Lane, Grasmere, Cumbria

This small rural cemetery is situated on the northern edge of the village, just off the A591 Ambleside-Keswick road. It opened in 1899 and the first burial took place on January 14th. Very limited car parking is available in the lane outside the cemetery, and the only facilities are a waiting shelter and a stand pipe for water for flowers (from April to October).

There are no permanent staff presence in this cemetery, which is administered from Kendal where all the cemetery records are kept. Although it is a small cemetery, intending visitors are advised to check grave location details with the office before travelling to the cemetery.

A numbered grave plan is posted in the cemetery building window.

The grave of poet William Wordsworth (1770-1850) is in the nearby Churchyard of St. Oswald, in the centre of the village.
