Agricultural Appraisals
New permanent dwellings in the open countryside will only be
allowed to support existing agricultural activities on well
established agricultural units. Any application will be judged on
both a functional and a financial test to establish whether a
dwelling is essential for the proper functioning of the farm. More
details on the test and how they are applied are available in
Annexe A of
PPS 7 : Sustainable development in rural areas
When is an agricultural appraisal
required?
All planning applications for agricultural workers dwellings
must be accompanied by an agricultural appraisal. The appraisal
should be confined to a factual statement of the agricultural
considerations involved and an evaluation of the need for the
dwelling based upon both a functional and financial test.
